European Union: Arab-European summit to be held next Sunday under the presidency of Al-Sisi

The European Union (EU) has announced that the Arab-European summit will be held on Sunday and Monday (24-25 February) in Sharm el-Sheikh, under the chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

An EU statement said the summit between the League of Arab States and the European Union was going to "meet for the first time" from heads of state and government on both sides.

Donald Tusk and John Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, will officially represent the EU at the summit, he added.

The EU stressed that the summit aims to strengthen Arab-European relations, which will focus on a number of common challenges and challenges, the most important being multilateralism, trade and investment, migration, security and the situation in the region.

It is planned to begin work on the summit Sunday evening with an opening session followed by a public session on the continuation of meetings the next day and to hold a press conference at the end Works.

For its part, a European diplomatic source told the Middle East News news agency that the summit was to host a high-level European presence, alongside Donald Tusk and John Claude Juncker and Federica Mugreni, High Representative for foreign and security policy. In the European Union.

The source said the Foreign Ministers of Arab and European countries would hold a meeting on February 4 in Brussels to prepare for the summit.

He added that Europeans and Arabs have a long history of cultural, economic, trade and political exchanges, as well as geographical proximity and interdependence, which have contributed to the institutionalization of strong relations between the European Union and the League of Arab States.

Through this framework, the common goal was to develop closer cooperation in order to achieve common hopes for peace, security and prosperity in both regions.

He noted that the League of Arab States is the only Arab group that includes all Arab countries and is the equivalent of the European Union in the Arab world.
