Facebook confirms the phone numbers disclosed by millions of users

The management of the social networking company Facebook has acknowledged the existence of a list of phone numbers associated with the accounts of about 200 million users on the Internet without protection.

The company confirmed that it was conducting a thorough investigation to determine who was responsible for collecting this number of customer and subscriber telephone numbers and associated usernames, and leaving them unprotected on the Internet.

The list included the phone numbers of more than 18 million subscribers on Facebook in Britain alone.

The British police reported that it had informed its Irish counterpart, responsible for monitoring the activities of Facebook in the European Union, according to the BBC.

The list was discovered on a web server without being protected by any type of password, reinforcing the assumption that Facebook would not leave it as such.
