Three years after the launch of its latest phone, Fairphone, the Dutch social enterprise, announced Fairphone 3, the latest attempt to launch a modular smartphone made from sustainable sources, recycled parts and easy to to repair.
By making the phone easy to repair, the company can reduce its carbon footprint by 30% over the life of your device by allowing you to use a single device longer, rather than switching to a new one phone every year or every two years.
The third smartphone from Fairphone continues to reverse the phone trends. Fairphone 3 features not only a headset port, a microSD card and a removable battery, but also six standard components designed to be easily disassembled and replaced.
The company says: This means that the phone's lifespan may be longer than most other devices. Therefore, if you need to replace the camera, screen, battery or USB port, you can easily buy parts and repair them yourself.
Fairphone is committed to a world populated with long-lasting repairable phones that would significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
The latest phones are easy to repair because they are composed of six units, an approach similar to that previously used by the company for its phone (Fairphone 2) released in 2016, which received a rating of 10 out of 10 for repair on the site (iFixit).
In the past, the company was struggling to repair its phones in the long term and had to stop providing its phone (Fairphone 1) in 2017, issued in 2013, because it could not continue to produce spare parts.
Fairphone has designed its new phone using as much as possible ethical sources, using recycled plastic, copper, gold, tin and tungsten not extracted from conflict areas to build the phone. .
It also improves its sources of cobalt, component lithium-ion batteries, and recycling initiatives will reward buyers who recycle their previous phones when they buy a Fairphone 3 in some countries.
Since Fairphone focuses on making a durable phone and its mission to rethink the waste of consumer electronics, the specifications of the Fairphone 3 do not compete with those of the phones. flagships launched this year.
The new phone has a 5.7-inch screen, a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, an 18: 9 image format, a protective glass (Gorilla Glass 5), a 12-megapixel rear camera and a camera 8 megapixel front camera with Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor.
The device has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Although the battery of 3000 mAh supports a fast charge, it is not the largest of its range, but it is removable, which facilitates its replacement.
The Fairphone 3 is supposed to be available from September 3rd and can be pre-ordered from today on the company's website at a price of € 450.
The telephone box does not include charger, cable or earphones. Users can therefore use their accessories and reduce electronic waste.
