In April, we covered the story of a talented group of developers known as “Team SCU” who were working hard on a 2D version of the hit Nintendo GameCube, Metroid Prime.
It was called ‘First 2D’ and at the time, the first demo of the game had just been uploaded. We can add that it was absolutely fantastic. SCU even noted in this demo that the title was a “fan-made for fun” project.
Despite this, the project now appears to have been scrapped. This information was shared on Project Discord by “Troid92” and then reposted on Metroid Subreddit. Although no name was given, a “certain company associated with the games” informed the team to stop their work immediately.
The demo has also been removed, along with the MP3 soundtrack – and there is now a dialogue between the two parties. In the same message to fans, it was noted how the decision to release the demo was the “right choice” for the team and SCU does not regret it. And here it is in full:
At this point, it shouldn’t be hard to guess which company is behind the shutdown. Hopefully the project will come back somehow, in a way that doesn’t involve the use of Metroid IP.

Have you finally tried the demo of this game? Have you been eagerly awaiting the return to 2D of Talon IV? Tell us in the comments.
