Ashley Cole of Los Angeles Galaxy left his club after he did not buy it next season.
The American club issued a statement announcing Cole's departure after three seasons with the team.
Cole was not the only one late. The club has sacked seven other players: Michael Siani, Brian Sylvester, Arial LaSteier, Cinon Williams, Rolf Fletcher, Baggio Horostek and Servando Krasko.
This decision came after the club failed to qualify for the qualifying phase after seventh place in the West Region.
Cole, who represented England in 107 games with Arsenal, Chelsea and Roma.
Cole is waiting for the league's "Dravat" process, which includes choosing clubs to include the best players in the US college league or players who have left their club while they are pursuing their contracts with the federation.
The process will take place on December 11 and if no old club is selected, the player will be free to decide his fate.
