The African Football Confederation (CAF) announced that the Executive Committee had rejected the decision of the Governance Committee to appoint the Malagasy Ahmed Ahmed, President of the Federation, in the elections scheduled for next March.
“The executive committee of CAF met on Saturday in Yaoundé, and was informed of the sports court’s decision to end the sanctions imposed on the president of KAF,” said a statement released by Alexander Siwi.
The press release adds: “The Executive Committee considers that the decision of the Governance Committee of February 5 (approving Ahmed’s candidacy) is inappropriate and recalls that the aptitude test to organize the elections is solely the responsibility of the Commission. FIFA review. “
Earlier, a source from “CAF” told FilGoal.com: “The executive office rejected the decision of the Governance Committee to approve the nomination of Ahmed Ahmed for the KAF elections.”
He explained the reason, “because his candidacy is illegal and against the rules, and therefore he will not run.”
The Governance Committee of the African Football Confederation (CAF) has enabled Ahmed Ahmed to run for president of the organization in the elections next March.
The committee’s decision came after the Court of Arbitration for Sport temporarily suspended the decision against Ahmed, who is to suspend it for 5 years.
Ahmed returned to the CAF presidency after the court’s interim decision, to be held on March 2, an appeal session, and he will make a final decision on the first before the CAF elections scheduled for March 12, but the decision of the Executive Committee means that the elections will take place between the Ivorian Jacques Anoma, the Mauritanian Ahmed Ould Yahya, and the South Patrice Mozebi, an African, and Augustine Senghor, a Senegalese.
Ahmed Ahmed was arrested by FIFA last November for financial irregularities and sentenced to a fine of 200,000 Swiss francs.
Last October, Ahmed announced his candidacy for the presidency of CAF for the second time, after being elected in 2017.
