The 26th edition of the World Handball Championship will take place on Thursday 10 and 27 January in Germany and Denmark.
The Egyptian team participates for the 15th time in the history of handball and plays in Group D, which takes place in Denmark, and the qualification system differs from that of the previous group stage.
The tournament will be held for the first time in a joint organization between two countries and will be repeated in 2023 between Poland and Sweden after Egypt organized the World Cup in 2021.
The Egyptian team took part in the tournament for the first time in 1964 in Czechoslovakia.
The Pharaohs are in the current version of the group which includes teams from Sweden, Hungary, Qatar, Argentina and Angola.
The Egyptian team is led by Spanish coach David Davis, assisted by Hussein Zaki and Hani Fakhrani, former Egyptian stars.

Friday, January 11 (Egypt vs Sweden) at 7:30 pm
Sunday, January 13 (Egypt x Qatar) at 2.30 pm
Monday January 14 (Egypt vs Argentina) at 5 pm
Wednesday, January 16th (Egypt × Hungary) at 5 pm
Thursday January 17th (Egypt, Angola) at 2.30 pm
The winner gets two points and the loser has no point and scores a point for each team.
The best results of the Pharaohs in 2001, reaching the golden box in the historical achievement of any non-European team in the championship.
Since that tournament, Egypt has failed to qualify for the quarter-finals so far in eight successive championships.
Qualification system
With the Pharaohs seeking to qualify for the quarter-finals after an 18-year absence, the qualifying system has been modified since the group stage by qualifying only three teams instead of four out of four.
The former system qualified the top four teams in each group in the semifinal phase, which was held in the exclusion phases by knockout.
The new tournament system qualifies the top three of the four groups and the 12 teams are divided into two groups.
The first group of the next round consists of the first three teams of the first and second groups, while the other group comprises the first three teams of the third and fourth groups.
Each team qualifies for points received in direct matches between the two qualifying teams of the same group, each playing three games against the other three teams in the other group.
Holders of first and second places qualify immediately for the semi-finals, while the third placed team places in front of the other group to finish fifth and sixth.
The Egyptian team faces fierce competition with Sweden, Europe 2018, Hungary with the London Olympics in 2012, Asian champions Qatar and the 2014 world championship alongside Argentina and Angola at the lowest level.
