Sports Minister Ashraf Subhi said he was waiting for the president of the football federation, Hani Abu Reda, to continue with the African Football Confederation (AU) to discuss the possibility of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sobhi emphasized in statements to On Sport that "the political leadership was for the happiness of the Egyptian people".
Sobhi said: "I am waiting for Hani Abu Reda tomorrow Thursday with the President of the African Union to study the issue".
"Egypt is able to organize the tournament and has organized many international events, tournaments and forums."
"The political leaders are eager to make the Egyptian people happy," he said.
FilGoal.com has learned earlier that a phone call had been made between the sports minister and the president of the football federation after Morocco had refused to run for the tournament. Sobhi then asked Abu Rida two things.
The first is to clarify the position of the Football Federation on the possibility of organizing the tournament from all sides and the obstacles that may appear in this file.
The second is Abu Rida's call to CAF officials to see if another country could bid for the tournament and if Egypt wants to take the plunge.
CAF has withdrawn the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in June in Cameroon due to lack of stadium construction and lack of quality infrastructure. (See details)
The Egyptian Football Federation has announced its intention to submit an application for the organization of the tournament to be the subject of a declaration of the state organization on January 9, in addition to supporting the Morocco issue at this time.
The current situation has already been contested by the tournament, intervened in 2015 when Morocco apologized for its unwillingness to hold the tournament due to the Ebola outbreak at the time.
