Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, said that discussions are currently underway with FIFA to determine the fate of the upcoming Football Federation elections.
Sobhi added on Radio On Sport today, Tuesday, “We are not going to clash with FIFA to organize the elections, but things need to be managed rationally because we respect international entities.”
He continued, “There are deliberations with the International Federation to present to them the provisions of Egyptian law, which provides for the holding of elections after the Olympic Games. We must arrive soon at the results of these deliberations.”
He continued: “The task of the current committee ends in January, and I think another six months will not be long.”
The Sports Ministry banned any general assembly of sports federations and said the Football Federation would not be exempt from the decision.
Ahmed Mujahid heads a tripartite committee which is currently running the federation on a temporary basis.
In another context, the Minister of Sports said: “In the process of issuing an official statement regarding the board of directors of the Zamalek Club, according to the results of investigations by the prosecution and other parties”.
The Sports Ministry suspended Zamalek’s board, saying the reason was financial irregularities.
A temporary committee is currently running the Zamalek club.
