Boca Juniors has announced the departure of coach Guillermo Barros Skelotto, his contract being completed at the end of the month.
Daniel Bocca's president, Daniel Angelichetti, appeared at a press conference near Skelotto, ending the three-year trip.
"I have a lot of pain and sadness because we can not get the seventh cut," said Angletchi at the press conference. "The club, the management, the coaching staff and the players did everything to reach the final, and we were not ready to lose."
"I have to make a decision and we see that the best for Boca Juniors is to change the coaching staff of the happy new year. This is not a goodbye because Guillermo is a symbol of the club."
"I have not spoken to any coach so far personally, we have to speak frankly to Guillermo, for whom we have a lot of respect and a lot of love," he said.
Boca Juniors lost the Copa Libertadores 3 to 5 overall after a lot of controversy and delays in his return to the final at Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid on Sunday.
Boca did not qualify for the World Club Cup, which resulted in the announcement of the departure of his coach since early 2016.
