Tunisian Naim Seliti, participating in his move to the Saudi club Al Itifaq, attributed it to religious reasons.
Seliti left Dijon for the transaction on the summer transfer market, for 5 million euros.
"I sacrificed an offer from Real Mallorca, because I wanted to be near the Holy Kaaba and bring up my children in accordance with Islamic law," said al-Celiti.
He continued in remarks by the Tunisian "franc" newspaper: "I will be a dangerous Saudi football"
Seliti, 27, was born in Marseille and has 38 selections for Tunisia.
The 173 cm player took part in Tunisia's fourth place at the 2019 Nations Africa Cup in Egypt.
Saliti scored a late goal in his team's 2-0 win over Unity on Saturday.
