American Caleb Dressel won gold in the 100m freestyle at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting a new Olympic record on his way.
Dressel, gold medalist in Rio de Janeiro, prevented Australia’s Kyle Chambers from retaining his title.
Dressel finished the race in 47 seconds and two milliseconds, 6 milliseconds behind his runner-up.
Dressel won her fourth gold medal overall, but this is her first individual gold medal.
Dressel broke Australian Eamonn Sullivan’s record of 47 seconds and five milliseconds, set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Dressel won two gold medals in Tokyo, having won the 100m relay with his colleagues earlier.
