Liverpool midfielder Andy Robertson believes his teammate Virgil Van Dyck deserves the World Player of the Year award from the Professional Players Association.
The impressive performance of Dutch defender Rifca Ridz this season makes him a candidate for the title crowned by our Egyptian star Mohamed Salah last season.
Since the announcement of the awards in 1974, defenders have only been crowned five times, the last 14 years ago, when former Chelsea defender, John Terry, had been rewarded.
Robertson believes Van Dyck deserves this award after helping his team win a blank net in 16 games. "If the season is over tonight, I will give it to him personally," he said.
"There are still 10 games left and another player may appear but Virgil can move to another level," he said, congratulating the defender who had scored two goals in the win over Watford.
"The forwards are still in the lead because they're the best scorers, but Van Dyck has been outstanding this season and he's getting the praise he deserves," continued Andy in Sky Sports.
"I do not think he's focusing on these things, but he's focusing more on the team, but it's fine to have a prize at the end of the season and to to make sure that he will be competing with them and will occupy advanced positions even if he does not win. "
He justified the reasons. "His performance is continuous and he continues to work in the same way, nothing prevents him from winning the prize, it makes life easier."
"For me, he's the best defender in the world right now, it's his way of playing and his confidence, he's still young and able to grow even more."
Van Dyke joined Liverpool in January 2017 from Southampton for £ 75m, becoming the most expensive defender in the world.
During the season, the 27-year-old played in 34 games, scoring 3 goals and 2 goals.
