The African Football Confederation (CAF) has officially announced the holding of the 2019 Nations Africa Cup in Egypt.
The tournament was scheduled to start on June 14, but Egypt and the Arab countries requested a deadline of one week until the end of Ramadan.
The AU decided that the tournament would start on June 21st and end on July 19th.
The draw will take place in the pyramids on Friday, April 12th.
This version will include 24 teams for the first time.
Al-Kaf explained how the 24 teams qualify: the qualifying teams are divided into 12. The leaders and their leaders qualify in each group, with the exception of Egypt, which is supposed to have another scenario.
The assumptions put forward by the African Union were as follows: if the Egyptian team took first place, it would only increase the group's second place.
If the finalist was there, the African leaders would have climbed, but if the Pharaohs were in the third or fourth place of the group, only the leaders would climb.
These scenarios will not be adopted because Egypt and Tunisia lead the group with 12 points, 4 points for Niger and one for Swatini.
Egypt won the 2019 African Nations Cup with 16 votes against one vote for South Africa over 18 votes after a member abstained.
It was the fifth time that Egypt was organizing the Africa Cup of Nations, the 1959 edition organized under the name of United Arab Republic and winning the title that year, as well as 1974 edition. Zaire won the title, the 1986 edition and Egypt the winner.
The 2019 Africa Nations Championship will be held in June with the participation of 24 teams divided into six groups for the first time in the history of the tournament.
