Former Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez, revealed that Steven Gerrard had intervened to prevent him from settling in Arsenal in the summer of 2013.
Suarez, Barcelona's current striker, joined the Gunners just 18 months after he took the Reds after the Reds failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Arsenal then made an offer of £ 40 million, the penalty clause of his contract with Liverpool at the time, before Gerrard prevented it.
"We qualified for the European League, but this season ended badly and I was about to move to Arsenal," Suarez told the Otro digital platform.
"But Gerrard promised me that if I stayed for another season, I would go to Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona or wherever I wanted."
"Gerrard said: stay this season because your stint at Arsenal will not make you a better player."
"It was the last conversation with Gerrard at that time, and then I told Kelly that my decision was to stay with Liverpool, Gerard's words have convinced me."
"These words came from someone who cares about me, someone who has seen me practice and has seen and I was sad."
"These words came from a real leader who has a lot of influence and helped me a lot."
