In a new development that will help asthmatics, Russian scientists have invented a drug that can block one of the major mechanisms of the disease that affects millions of people.
In a report, the Russian daily Izvestiya announced that scientists from the Institute of Immunology of the Federal Medical Agency had come up with a preparation that would allow patients to get rid of the attacks of choking, pointing out that the drug affected the cause of the disease and did not fight its symptoms.
The drug has successfully passed all preclinical tests, claiming that scientists had tested it on laboratory mice. Inhalation of the product resulted in a significant reduction in the size of bronchitis.
"The creation of this substance at the molecular level blocks the production of the protein" comet "in the inflammation of interleukin-4, which causes the development of allergies, said the director of the Institute, Moshe Khaitov.
Professor Johnston of the Royal College of London said in a statement that the United States and Britain are also conducting research and studies in this area, but that Russian scientists have been able to prove that Interleukin 4 plays a major role in the development of respiratory tract infections.
Professor Olga Vyodorova, specialist in allergies and immunology, said: "This drug is unmatched in the world."
