Fourth in Burnley's goal brings Liverpool closer to league leaders

LONDON (Reuters) – Liverpool beat Manchester City on Sunday after beating Burnley 4-1 in tough conditions in Enfield.

Liverpool's goals were scored by Roberto Fermeno and Sadio Mani with two goals apiece.

Liverpool has 73 points, one ahead of Manchester City, who scored 74 after a 3-1 win over Watford on Saturday. Each of them will have eight matches until the end of the league.

The match took place in a difficult atmosphere due to heavy rains and winds. Liverpool did not give the best of the match but his coach Jürgen Klub said he was satisfied with his performance.

The club was based on Adam Lalana, a former Southampton player, in midfield over Jordan Henderson, and he performed well despite his previous injuries.

"I told him that he could play as he did, he would help us a lot and that's exactly what happened," he said.

Ashley Westwood scored for Burnley at a corner six minutes into the match. The ball was in goal against Liverpool, which gave the impression that Burnley defender James Tarkovsky had blocked goaltender Alison Baker.

Liverpool equalized when Tarkovsky and goalkeeper Tom Heaton failed to deceive a Mohammed Salah cross to score the draw near Fermino.

Followed by Mani with a shot in the second half after a defensive effort to disperse the ball.

Burnley was good early in the second half but dropped in the 67th minute when goalkeeper Heaton shot Salah a bad shot, blocked by Charlie Taylor of Burnley, who put the ball ahead 3-0.

Johann Berg-Gudmundsson gave hope to Bernley when he scored the second goal in the first minute of the time off.

But after another mistake, Mani added the fourth goal after goalkeeper Highton slipped the ball into the net.

Bernley coach Sean Dyke was pleased with his playing style and had eight more games to keep his team's 17th place in the league.

"We can not give four goals to a team like Liverpool, we gave him three goals, we could ask questions about the mistakes, but it was certainly a match," he said.
