Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zeid, chairman of the Arab Water Council and former Minister of Irrigation, said that at the general assembly, the elections of "governors" would be held for the new session 2019-2021, which includes 45 seats, of which 20 will be directly elected, 22 seats will be appointed in accordance with their appointment by their governments and their official authorities in the Arab countries.

He added that during the meetings, a number of themes and sub-themes of the Arab Water Council's plan of action will be discussed and discussed in accordance with the priorities and recommendations adopted by the Council. Abu Zeid said that the members of the Board of Governors will participate in developing the Council's strategies and work plan for the next three years (2019-2021) through three working groups, namely the group. to revive the role of members and revitalize members and ensure sustainable funding for Council activities and programs, Technical programs and activities of the Council and the Working Group for the preparation of forums and programs. conferences.

For his part, Mr. Hussein Al-Atifi, Secretary-General of the Arab Water Council and former Lord's Minister, said that the Board of Governors was the supreme body of the Arab Council of the United Arab Emirates. water and that it was responsible for defining the detailed policies of the Council, making organizational and executive decisions to ensure the proper functioning of the Council. And its members are elected every 3 years.

He added that during the General Assembly, three important technical sessions would be held: the first on the indicators of the state of water in the Arab region and its relations with the region. sustainable development, and the second on the use of modern technologies and remote sensing techniques in water resources management for sustainable agriculture, in cooperation with the Arab Council for Water and the World Bank.

The third session will review the basic results of the International Hydrological Program for Groundwater and Arid Zones in cooperation with UNESCO and the latest of the Arab Water Council's program to support regional efforts. aiming to develop the use of unconventional water to cope with water scarcity and increase the needs due to population growth.

Al-Attafi said that the 13th meeting of the initiative on the links between climate change and its relationship with sustainable development, food and water security and social fragility in Arab countries would be held, indicating the signature agreements in this respect.
