German researchers from the University of Heidelberg announced Thursday that they had developed "the first blood test" to detect breast cancer and described their discovery as "a milestone" in the diagnosis of disease.
Christoph Zun, the hospital's medical director, said during a presentation in Düsseldorf that although no analysis was conducted to determine whether a woman was ill or in good health "Take a fluid sample" was a non-surgical procedure to determine if there was "an indicator of the disease." Or not.
The blood test, which will be released later this year, is not intended to compete with traditional chest X-ray, ultrasound or MRI, Zoon said.

"These are completely different ways of knowing if a woman has breast cancer," he said.
According to the hospital, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among German women. In 2018, about 70,000 women were diagnosed with the disease.
In a written statement, Zun and the team say that if breast cancer is detected early, there is "95% chance" of treatment.
For patent law reasons, the researchers told reporters that the details of their findings were not yet published in medical journals before their presentation on Thursday.
