The German STIKO Immunization Committee has advised people under the age of 60 who have received their first dose of AstraZeneca not to receive their second dose.
The committee recommended that these people receive a dose of an mRNA-based vaccine, such as the one found in Pfizer or Moderna, 12 weeks after receiving their first dose of AstraZeneca.
“Until appropriate data are available, we recommend that people under the age of 60 instead take the second dose” of AstraZeneca, “the committee said in a statement, that a dose of one mRNA-based vaccine should be taken 12 weeks after the first dose, noting that “No.” There is scientific evidence that a mixed series of vaccines is not safe. “
The recommendation comes after Germany suspended use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for people under the age of 60 over fears of rare blood clots.
