The World Health Organization has cleared the urgent use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, given the accelerating global demand for vaccines.
European sources said: “No progress has been made in negotiations with AstraZeneca to supply more vaccines”, due to the UK company’s delay in distributing some shipments.
European sources mentioned discussions with the American company Moderna to provide 150 million additional doses of the Corona vaccine.
The new Corona virus vaccine produced by Moderna is similar to the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine, which was licensed and shipped earlier to vaccinate the first batch of Americans.
The most important difference between the two vaccines is that what Moderna produces can be stored in regular refrigerators and does not require an ultra-cold transport network, making it more accessible for small facilities and remote areas.
The new vaccine should be stored at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius for a period of 30 days, while the Pfizer vaccine should be at minus 60 degrees Celsius to keep it for the same period.
