The fine is the third major financial sanction of the EU against Google, but it closes the latest investigation opened in Europe against the American company.
Last year, Google received an unprecedented fine of 4.3 billion euros for abusing its dominant position in the smart phone world. In 2017, the European Union fined 2.4 billion euros to Google for manipulating the search results.
For its part, Google announced after the fine that it was going to start questioning users of Android operating systems in Europe on the browser and search service that they want to use, instead of imposing services on them as before.
