The technology site, Trend Micro, has revealed 29 malicious apps included in the official Google Play store, all of which have been announced as "beauty camera" apps. Since then, Google has removed these apps.
Image applications have implemented a number of infamous activities on already installed Android devices, including ads that fill the screen with fraudulent or pornographic content each time the user opens the screen. apparatus.
Other applications redirect users to phishing sites that try to steal their personal information. Attempts have sometimes been made to steal emails or phone numbers from users.
Trend Micro points out that even legal content, such as pornographic material, promoted by these apps was part of a scam.
In another batch of beauty apps, the company discovered that some image-filtering applications promising to beautify users' images were actually stealing images, which would have the effect of uploading that user's image to a server private. With a fake message telling them that they need to update the application.
The company believes that these stolen images are used for other purposes, such as counterfeiting of accounts on communication sites.
A total of 29 malicious apps have been downloaded more than 4 million times. Three of these apps alone account for more than 3 million downloads.
