NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Google's smart glasses, Google Glass, can help children with autism understand facial expressions and social cues, according to a new study.
Children with developmental disabilities often have difficulty communicating with the eyes and interpreting basic emotions, which can be difficult for them.
But the researchers said that wearing smart glasses, which included a screen and a speaker, helped children better understand and identify the emotions on people's faces and, in some cases, slightly reduce the symptoms of the eye. # 39; autism.
The research team at Stanford University in California says its results show that Google's glasses are cheaper and easier to access, which could help improve behavioral therapists' waiting lists.
The intervention, dubbed "Superpower Glass" by researchers from Stanford University, concerns children with autism who carry "Google Glass" several times a week.

Google's smart glasses feature a small screen on the right eye and a speaker, providing users with visual and audio information.
During the study, researchers examined 71 children aged 6 to 12 with autism spectrum disorder.
The researchers have programmed an application with Google Glass to teach participants facial expressions using real-time signals.
Forty children participated in the device for 20 minutes four times a week for six weeks. After this period of study, the researchers noted improvements in SRS-II, a comprehensive questionnaire of parents on the social skills of their autistic children, which means an improvement in the symptoms of the disease.
"The results give hope that intelligent appearance can be a standard treatment in the treatment of autism," said co-author Dennis Wall, associate professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Stanford University. "The study strongly emphasizes the effectiveness of digital treatment of autism," he said.
