Riyadh – Harmony:
Google has developed an online translation service designed to reduce what appears to be a bias for men at the expense of women. The translation of any nonspecific gender of the actor has been announced twice, first of all because the actor is female and the other as masculine. Only
The new service is available in English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.
According to CNN.com, this is not the first time Google has been trying to make its tools and services less sexist.
In November, Smart Compose, a Gmail e-mail service, stopped suggesting consonants while writing messages to reduce the risk of misrepresentation, such as suggesting a masculine pronoun while being feminine or vice versa.
This property offers male awareness as the default option.
Google plans to expand the reach of sexism into more languages supported by Google Translate and to provide Google with a translation for iOS devices or Android operating systems.
