Mohammed Salah and his teammate Andy Robertson, Liverpool's official club account on Instagram, garnered strong support from the club and a comment from the Egyptian star.
The picture shows Robertson gently placing his hand on Salah's cheek and glancing admiringly after the appearance of the Egyptian star in a new suit and shaving his beard.
Salah reprinted the photo via his account on Instagram, accompanied by other Robertson shots looking similarly to other colleagues, including Jordan Henderson and Virgil Van Dyke.
"Look for someone who looks at you in the same way that Robertson looks at his colleagues," Salah writes in a caption at the top of the photo.
"We all need Andy in our lives," said the top scorer in the English Premier League.
The image posted on Liverpool's account sparked the reaction of followers of the English team on social networking sites.
One of them quipped that Robertson "lived in love with Salah", while another said the photo would anger the Croatian Diane Lovrin, known to be Salah's first friend in Liverpool.
Another user posted an image on his account and said another person saying, "I hope you look at me as Robertson looks at Salah."
Liverpool is currently in training camp in Marbella, Spain, before two first-round matches against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on February 19 and the second against Manchester United in the Premier League on the 24th of the same month.
Manchester City are leading the Premier League with a different goal difference from Liverpool (65 points), City playing 27 games, while Liverpool disputing 26.
