Peter Fonda, the star of the classic "Easy Rider", died at the age of 79 from lung cancer, his family announced.
Fonda is the son of the famous actor Henry Fonda and the brother of activist and actress Jane Fonda, who described it as "my good little brother" in a statement, AFP reported Saturday.

"I am very sad," said the actress. "We had a good time in the last few days, he died of laughter."
Fonda co-wrote and produced the film Easy Rider in 1969, alongside director Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson.
The film, which traces the journey of two young men motorcyclists from Los Angeles to the southwest, became a classic film, with the subject of social changes in the United States in the 1960s, such as the emergence of the hippie movement and the spread of the drug. Fonda was nominated for the best original screenplay.

Fonda began his career as a theater actor on Broadway, in his native New York.
