French artist Julien Gauthier was killed during a recent trip to Canada after being attacked by a predatory bear.
The 44-year-old musician, inspired by nature, was killed in his camp near the village of Tolita on the Mackenzie River in the Northwest Territories of Canada in the early hours of Thursday.
The biologist Camille Tuscany, accompanied by the French composer Gauthier during his expedition, planned to travel from Fort Providence to Innovec, two cities separated by more than 1,600 kilometers of wilderness, within 30 days.
Tuscany, who set off a distress signal after the incident, said that the bear entered the camp at night and took Gauthier away.
The officials did not specify the type of bear involved, but said that two bears, a grizzly bear and a black bear, had been killed last week as part of the investigation and had been conducted in laboratories to determine if they were responsible for the attack.
The last thing Gauthier posted on social media was 8 days before his death, describing his trip as "an intense, exhausting and inspiring adventure," explaining that he and his colleague were facing four bears and a wolf.
