Greek police arrested Olympiacos defender Portuguese international Ruben Semedo on Sunday after accusing him of raping a 17-year-old girl.
Semedo, 27, appeared before the prosecutor in the Greek capital, Athens on Monday.
The teenager said Semedo “lured her into his home before raping her with a 40-year-old Nigerian,” who was arrested on Monday, AFP reported.
The player met the girl at a bar in the coastal town of Orobos on Saturday and then took her to his home in Glyfalda, on the outskirts of Athens, where she said she was raped.
The player denied the charge, according to what his lawyer, Stavros Yorgopoulos, told reporters outside the court, noting that “his client says the plaintiff is 19”.
He added that Semedo and the alleged victim were part of “a group that had been together for 3pm, and it is inconceivable that they were involved in such an incident.”
One of Greece’s biggest and most successful clubs, Olympiacos, have yet to comment.
Semedo’s name was recently linked with a move to Porto or Turin, the Italians, knowing he joined Olympiacos two years ago under a 4-year contract with Spanish club Villarreal.
But he left Villarreal after being convicted of an attempted murder for which he was sentenced to five years in prison, but avoided the sentence in exchange for an eight-year ban from entering Spain in under an agreement reached in 2020. He was also fined 46,000. euros ($ 54,300).
