Professor Bruce Bannert, Principal Investigator at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said the near-total absence of rocks, hills and holes on the surface of the planet would be very safe for the aircraft because the Earth on Mars looked like a simple piece of land.
The space mission was launched last May and cost $ 850 million. The main goal is to map the interior of the red planet with unprecedented details, announced the NASA Space Agency.
The mission is expected to last about a year on Mars, two years on Earth.
