Video game sales in the United States hit an all-time high in 2020, reaching $ 56.9 billion, according to a report by the “NPD Group” on Friday, confirming the positive performance of the sector, driven by home quarantine measures .

The total revenues of companies operating in the sector increased by 27%, or an additional $ 12 billion, compared to 2019.

Last December was also the highest-grossing month in U.S. video game history, with cumulative revenues of $ 7.7 billion, up 25%, or $ 1.5 billion, per report to December 2019.

The vast majority of sales come from video game content, whether sold in a non-virtual, downloadable format, or through subscriptions, various services or spending on video games.

The game “Call of Duty”, available through “Playstation”, “Xbox” and computers, generated the highest revenues in 2020.

The Japanese company “Nintendo” has won the battle for video game consoles because its “Switch” device has topped sales, either in terms of dollar turnover or number of units sold.

The PlayStation 5, launched by Sony in November, ranked second in terms of the number of units sold, while the previous model, PlayStation 4, generated the second highest turnover.

NBD did not give details on sales of the two new versions of Xbox (“Series X” and “Series S”), which Microsoft also launched in November.

Sony and Microsoft have not released sales figures for their new models either.
