It is reported that phones The Huawei P50, due for release next year, features innovative liquid lens technology to dramatically improve focus speeds.

Huawei is looking to turn things around in smartphone photography again with its new patented liquid lens technology.

The technology is said to allow millisecond focus, roughly similar to the human eye.

A new report says liquid lenses will be mass produced and marketed in 2021.

According to reports, this new liquid lens technology could be integrated into Huawei P50 phones for next year.

Huawei obtained a patent for this new technology on December 25 of last year, and it was announced in April of this year.

This liquid lens technology is expected to be integrated into the telephoto lens of the phone along with the Sony IMX782 sensor, which has yet to be announced.

The information shows that a conventional zoom lens achieves focus by adjusting the focal length between two lenses with a fixed focal length.

New liquid technology is used to focus the light, Instead of moving the lenses, the camera unit changes the shape of the fluid by passing electricity to it to control imaging.

Huawei’s technical solution enables the use of a liquid lens motor to meet performance requirements, such as: autofocus and optical image stabilization, while improving reliability over conventional focus motors in abnormal working conditions, such as: bumps and falls.

It is reported that this is not the first time that Huawei has been reported to try to invent new cameras. Where the company was the first to insert a periscope lens into a smartphone with the Huawei P30 Pro released in 2019.

This new technology has allowed smartphone makers to incorporate large zooms without the unit sticking out of the rear frame.

A periscope lens uses the mirror reflection method to adjust zoom settings before light reaches the image sensor.
