BAGHDAD (Reuters) – The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced Tuesday that it had received about 400 people injured because of "Tabar" during the Ashura rite.

The ministry said in a statement that the hospital Sheikh Zayed in Baghdad had received 56 cases, the hospital Imam Ali 115, Sadr martyr 135, Al-Kindi hospital 20 cases, the l 39; Al-Zaafaraniya Hospital 53, Al-Madain Hospital a case and Dhari Al-Fayyad Hospital 6 cases.

According to local media, hundreds of citizens were injured in the governorates of Maysan, Dhi Qar and Basra because of the practice of rituals, including children. In the province of Dhi Qar, a special salon has been set up to receive cases of medical treatment.

Shia Muslims in Iraq commemorated the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali in Karbala (62), under strict security conditions in some provinces. They arrived in Karbala and hosted thousands of Shiites from different Iraqi cities and other countries to commemorate the ritual.

In Karbala, which includes the shrine of Imam Hussein, security authorities have closed the entrances and exits of the city and around the shrine, in anticipation of any terrorist act, while deploying thousands of soldiers in alleys and neighborhoods, near shrines and Husseiniyat.

In the capital Baghdad, the Husseiniya set up pavilions and tents to welcome visitors and provide them with popular food, while erecting dozens of large pots where they prepared food for home delivery.

For its part, announced the Iranian consul in the province of Karbala Mir Masoud Hosseinian, the arrival of more than 100,000 Iranian visitors to participate in the ceremony of Achoura.

The Iraqi and Iranian governments have since March agreed to cancel the visa for citizens of both countries, after Baghdad initially rejected the proposal of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in this regard.
