Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The world today lives in conflict with the outbreak of the novel Corona virus, which has claimed the lives of thousands of people around the world. But, what is the situation of Arab countries in the midst of the epidemic?
The figures in the infographic above, which are based on data from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, reflect the ranking of Arab countries with the highest recorded deaths from the Corona virus.
Among these Arab countries, Egypt has the highest number of deaths from the disease, followed by Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Algeria.
Authorities in 214 countries and territories are reported to have announced around 12.1 million cases of emerging coronavirus and 550,000 deaths, since China informed the World Health Organization of its first cases in December.
Since then, cases of COVID-19 have been reported on all continents except Antarctica. The vast majority of cases and deaths occur outside of mainland China, where the outbreak began.
With the spread of the Corona virus around the world, the number of deaths in Europe and North America now exceeds the number of deaths in Asia. In Latin America, South America and the Caribbean, the number of deaths continues to rise.
