Khabarni – Syrian artist Duraid Lahham said that the relationship between God and man should be based on love, not fear. If the problem is fear, then I fear intelligence more than God.
And during his honorary symposium as part of the activities of the thirty-seventh session of the Alexandria Film Festival: the relationship between God and man must be based on love, not fear, and that the saying “the head of wisdom is the fear of God” is wrong and that “the head of wisdom is the love of God. If the problem is fear, then I fear intelligence more than God.
He mentioned an incident that happened to his grandson when he was afraid of thunder as a child, and he said, “Oh my God, I love you, why did you fear me?”
He criticized the cultivation of scary ideas in children about God and his harsh punishment if a person was wrong, and said people give alms to the elders, but now the sheikh comes to the mosque in a Mercedes because religion has become a profession.
He mentioned a situation that happened to him with one of the sheikhs when he asked him if he was religious, and he replied, “No, by God”, adding that he is a believer, and here is a big difference between religiosity, which is a ritual, and faith.
Laham revealed during the symposium why he does not present works in the Egyptian dialect, and attributed this to his personal belief that every artist’s dialect stems from his identity.
In his speech, he asked, “Do the Egyptians accept the speech of the leader Adel Imam in a dialect other than Egyptian in his works? the Egyptian dialect is an identity and not a language, but I wanted to use a number of common terms in the countries where I showed my plays there.
