Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – In light of Gulf Oral and Dental Health Week, here are 3 beliefs about teeth and their health.

Sure enough, some of us have come across oral health beliefs online. In the shadow of the Gulf Oral and Oral Health Week, which takes place March 25-31, the official report from the Jeddah Governorate’s Directorate of Health Affairs, “Jeddah Health”, shared the truth behind 3 beliefs related to teeth.

3 common misconceptions about dental health:

  • Vinegar acid is useful for cleaning teeth: Acetic acid erodes tooth enamel and its use is never recommended
  • Soft drinks without sugar do not hurt your teeth: The acids in these drinks can erode tooth enamel or cause cavities
  • Chewing sugar-free gum is an alternative to brushing your teeth: Chewing gum helps clean teeth because it increases the secretion of saliva which helps neutralize acids. However, chewing gum will never replace your toothbrush.
