Jerusalem: Israeli Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gilad Ardan said the United Nations should recognize what he called “Jewish refugees” from Arab countries and Iran.
And Ardan wrote in an opinion piece in the “Jerusalem Post” newspaper on Monday, “850,000 Jewish refugees were expelled from Arab countries and Iran after the creation of Israel (in 1948).”
He added: “As for international organizations like the United Nations, they are forgotten refugees, but for us their struggle will continue.”
Palestinian officials had said in recent years that Israel was raising this issue in an attempt to swap the Palestinian refugee issue with what it called, the Jewish refugee issue.
Palestinians have denied that Jews were forced to leave Arab countries, citing the survival of Jewish neighborhoods, and even the presence of Jewish communities, in a number of Arab capitals until today.
In contrast, Israel does not recognize any rights for Palestinian refugees who were forced to abandon their property and real estate as a result of the massacres that accompanied the creation of the State of Israel.
According to Palestinian and international estimates, the number of Palestinians in the diaspora exceeds 6 million.
But Adran accused the Arabs of expelling the Jews and stealing their property.
“The United Nations has not provided any assistance to those who have been forced to leave their homes and has done little since then to recognize the enormous injustice they suffered,” he said.
He added: “There has been no international condemnation that these Jews were attacked and killed, their property looted and their property stolen, often by their neighbors, and with the support of the authorities.”
He continued, “In the decades since this treacherous expulsion, the United Nations has only helped the so-called Palestinian refugees.”
“I see it as a moral obligation to correct the mistake that has happened to our brothers and sisters in Arab countries. As Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, I am committed to making sure their stories do now. part of international consciousness, ”continued Ardan.
“I will conduct a diplomatic campaign to pass a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly to recognize their plight,” said the Israeli delegate, “I am not trying to disagree with our neighbors, but to ensure that the equality and justice are finally provided to Jewish communities that the world has despised for more than 70 years.
He added: “We will mobilize foreign ministers around the world, and with the help of Jewish organizations, I believe we can end the ignorance of the United Nations on this issue.”
“Peace can only be achieved through force, mutual respect and recognition of the truth,” Erdan continued.
The Israeli delegate to the United Nations asserted that “entire societies have been wiped out from Morocco to Iraq, and from Egypt to Syria, Lebanon, Iran and others”.
The countries concerned made no immediate comment on the accusations made by the Israeli representative to the United Nations.
