The Japanese probe Hayabusa-2 landed on the surface of the asteroid "Ryugo" to collect soil elements containing asteroids likely to reveal the origin of the solar system and life on Earth.

The Japanese Space Agency announced Thursday that the Hayabusa-2 was approaching the asteroid at 1:15 pm local time.

The agency noted that the vehicle is equipped with a band six meters wide to avoid obstacles on the surface of the asteroid.

The diameter of the asteroid "Ryugo", located about 300 million kilometers from the Earth, is about 900 meters.

Ryugu is the name of a submarine palace with Japanese heritage.

The Japanese probe Hayabusa-1 was able to bring back to Earth very accurate samples of the asteroid "Itokawa" in 2010 during the first mission of this type.
