Johnson & Johnson has recalled 6 of its sunscreen products from stores in the United States after a potentially carcinogenic chemical was detected in some samples.

The Wall Street Journal quoted the company as saying that consumers should stop using the six sunscreens called “Neutrogena and Aveeno” and get rid of them, with the exception of Neutrogena for wet skin.

It is also advising distributors and retailers to stop selling products and prepare to return them, she said.

The company has confirmed that it does not use benzene in the manufacture of sunscreen sprays and is investigating why they contain this carcinogen.
