This happened during his speech Saturday at the fifth session of the General Assembly of the Arab Water Council in Cairo, explaining that the issue of water had political and strategic dimensions that required Arab coordination at the highest levels and at all levels.
"The issue of water, in all its environmental, economic, social, political and strategic dimensions, is at the heart of the challenges that the Arab world will face in the coming years and decades, as a matter of the present and the future. of the future of the present generation and future generations, "said Aboul Gheit.
He cautioned against the danger of climate change, which exacerbates the risk of fragile conditions and makes it more difficult to manage these conditions. He added that the Arab region suffers from water scarcity and faces varying degrees of drought, which will increase over time due to climate change. The Arab region also has the largest food deficit in the world and, before and after, the fastest population growth, except perhaps sub-Saharan Africa.
