Healthy hours of sleep
Dr Marwan Mohamed, consultant in family and community medicine, explained: “The citizen“: The number of hours of sleep varies from person to person depending on the age of the person, but all estimates of the state of health indicate that they are:
- Newborns (1 to 3 months) need 14 to 17 hours of sleep per day.
- Babies 4 to 11 months old need 12 to 15 hours of sleep per day.
- Toddlers 1 to 2 years old need 11 to 14 hours of sleep per day.
- Preschoolers 3-5 years old need 10-13 hours of sleep per day.
- School-aged children aged 6 to 13 need 9 to 11 hours of sleep per day.
- Teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17 need 8-10 hours of sleep per day.
- Young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 need 7 to 9 hours of sleep per day.
- Adults 26 to 64 years old need 7 to 9 hours of sleep per day.
- People aged 65 and over need 7-8 hours of sleep per day.
Symptoms of lack of sleep

Because they interfere with the sleep process, electronic devices should be avoided in the bedroom twenty minutes before bedtime.
