The space rock, named 2015MB54, is on the asteroid watchlists of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which means it is being watched by experts. experienced staff from both agencies.

The diameter of the asteroid 2015MB54 is estimated to be 60 meters, according to the European Space Agency, making it slightly larger than the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, which is 57 meters high.

It is said to be traveling at a speed of 3.7 kilometers per second and will overtake our planet on Tuesday April 6.

NASA classified the 2015 MB54 as an Apollo space rock, a name given to a group of near-Earth asteroids that orbit larger than the Earth’s axis.

And NASA reports that the asteroid will pass 3,230,000 miles from Earth. For comparison, the average distance between Earth and the Moon is approximately 239,000 miles.

NASA tracks thousands of asteroids every year, all safely beyond the planet. There are over 18,000 asteroids near Earth.

The news comes after NASA said the fearsome ‘god of chaos’ asteroid would not strike Earth for at least 100 years.
