Libya began a new phase of transition yesterday, the day after the election of a unified and temporary executive authority which must form a government and prepare for the general elections scheduled for next December and end a decade of chaos, while that internal and external responses welcome this step are still ongoing.
Yesterday, the Libyan army welcomed the formation of the new executive authority and congratulated the Libyan people on the results of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum. The general command of the Libyan army praised the continuous and real efforts of the UN envoy to Libya, Stephanie Williams, which led to the election of the new executive authority to which all Libyans aspire. Williams said the commander of the Libyan army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar, was a representative of the Political Dialogue Forum.

The Joint Military Committee in Libya also welcomed the selection of a presidential council and a unified government that would lead the country to general elections before the end of this year. The Libyan Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) announced the start of the demining process next Wednesday with a view to opening the coastal road between Cyrenaica and Tripoli. Libyan politicians have also hailed the landmark decision.
The head of the Libyan House of Representatives and the former presidential candidate for the Presidency Council, Aguila Saleh, welcomed the outcome of the elections, expressing hope that the executive branch will succeed in the tasks entrusted to it.
In the Gulf, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Dr Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, welcomed the agreement in Libya to choose the new executive authority.
In the Arab world, the League of Arab States hailed the successful voting process of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Geneva which led to the selection of the new executive authority for the preliminary phase in Libya. In the same context, Algeria hailed the progress made in the Libyan political dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations and the formation of the interim executive power. Mauritania also welcomed the choice of the Libyan parties of an interim transitional authority which would lead the country to the holding of elections which would put an end to armed clashes and divisions.
Previously, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and Tunisia welcomed the choice of the new authority in Libya.
Internationally, the United States, Britain, France, Germany and Italy welcomed the Libyans’ agreement on executive power and in a joint statement described the success of choosing a unified authority as a decisive step towards a negotiated and comprehensive political solution.
Greek moving
Greece announced yesterday its intention to reopen its embassy in Tripoli immediately after the election of a transitional authority in Libya.
His Foreign Ministry said that “in light of recent developments, the Greek Embassy in Tripoli will reopen immediately. He also announced that he would launch all the necessary mechanisms to reopen the Greek consulate in Benghazi.
