The Syrians won late (5-2), Thursday, in a first round match of the first round of Group D qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Asian Cup.
Javier Patino opened the scoring for the Philippines early in the sixth minute. Ten minutes later, striker Omar Souma equalized for Syria, before Khaled Al-Moubayed gave him the lead in the 30th minute.
At the start of the second half, veteran Firas Al-Khatib increased the score of "Nassour Qassioun" with the third goal from the penalty spot (48 minutes), then Al-Soma came back and scored his second and fourth goal for Syria in the 58th minute.

Mick Otte scored a goal for the Philippines in the 83rd minute, but Mahmoud al-Mawas refused to keep three points behind, scoring Syria's fifth goal five minutes before the end.
With this result, Syria has risen to the top of Group A, with three points, ahead of the Maldives, who also beat Guam 1-0.
