Apple has officially released the latest version of the Mac operating system, known as macOS Big Sur or macOS 11.0, and it’s now available for download if you have a compatible Mac.
MacOS Big Sur has been one of the biggest and most important updates Apple has provided to its laptop and desktop software for many years.
The update features a top-to-bottom redesign for the interface, icons, and menu bar, and there’s a new Control Center taken from the iPhone operating system.
On top of that, there are a variety of other improvements you’ll get once you upgrade your Mac to macOS Big Sur, and the update supports the new Apple M1 chip.
With the release of this major update for Mac computers, Apple is effectively migrating from OS X, which has been used for Macs for almost 20 years.
