Lebanese singer Magda Al-Roumi kicked off the first concert held at the Dome Palace in the Egyptian capital Cairo after it opened today Friday with a song banned by the late Egyptian artist , Umm Kulthum.
Al-Roumi sang the song “On the Gate of Egypt,” which was banned by King Farouk, to receive warm applause from the audience after his performance ended, according to Egyptian reports.
And the song “Ala Bab Masr” was written by the late poet Kamel Al Shennawi, and at the beginning it had another name, “I am the people.” And when the late Egyptian musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab put it on, he agreed with Umm Kulthum to change his name to “Ali Bab Masr”.
After the outbreak of the revolution of July 23, 1952, some of the original words of the song were changed during working sessions that brought together Umm Kulthum and Muhammad Abd al-Wahhab, notably “You are in your silence obliged” to read ” I was in your obligatory silence. “
Umm Kulthum performed the song “Ali Bab Masr” for the first time at a concert which took place during one of the Revolutionary celebrations of July 1964 at the Officers’ Club, in the presence of the late Egyptian President, Gamal Abdel Nasser.
Magda Al-Roumi also paid tribute, during her ceremony at the Dome Palace, today, Friday, to the historic procession for the transfer of the mummies of the kings of Egypt from the Egyptian museum to the museum of civilizations, tomorrow, Saturday.
Al-Rumi commented on this historic occasion, saying: “Tomorrow, with the procession of mummies, history will bow to Egypt as far as its great history is concerned. Egypt has given history great lessons. of civilization. “
And she added: “It preserves your safety, security and territorial integrity. Egypt is the claim to fame.”
Majida Al Roumi is considered the first singer to perform in the prestigious “Palace of the Dome” after it opened to the public.
In contrast, the Egyptian media, Lamees Al-Hadidi, interviewed Magda Al-Roumi from inside the Dome Palace, which will soon be broadcast on her program “A Final Word” on the Egyptian satellite “ON E”.
