Manchester City returns to the top of the Premier League from Liverpool

Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City, said his team had learned "never to despair" at the last minute, having returned to the top of the Premier League for the first time since Dec. 16, thanks to a victory over Everton.

Last week City was five points behind Liverpool, but the Jorgen Club's youth drew twice in a row, leaving the lead with a goal difference and an incomplete match.

"Just a few days ago, we were seven points behind and we are leading," Guardiola said. "The lesson we learned is not to despair, it is also a tip for all athletes to focus only to win.

At the end of the first half, City scored with goal from defender Amaretto Laporte, who rose above the crowd to make David Silva Everton goalkeeper Jordan Beckford.

Sergio Aguero almost doubled in advance, but substitute Rahim Stirling missed several chances, but the second goal came in time for Gabriel Jesús.

City did not offer the same artistic performances as his fans, but he seemed solid to keep the score, preventing Everton from developing and threatening the game. And so achieved a comeback at the top of the league.

Focus on Liverpool

Coming back to Liverpool, he could recapture the advantage if he beat Bournemouth 24 hours before the fight between City and Chelsea in Manchester.

The city is currently leading, but changes in recent weeks make the race open for the league's final game.
