Manchester United strives to identify people who have abused Paul Pogba after missing a penalty kick in a draw (1-1) against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
Pogba got a penalty late, but Wolverhampton goalkeeper Roy Patricio saved him.
The tie cost United first place and resulted in racist abuse by some fans of the French player.
United said in a statement: "People who have expressed their views do not represent the values of our great club and it is encouraging to see the majority of our fans also condemning it on social media."
"Manchester United will never tolerate racist or discriminatory facts, and we have long supported an initiative that calls for equality for all."
"We will work to identify the few people who participated in these events, and we will do what we can for them, and we encourage social media companies to take action at these events."
United's advocate, Harry McGuire, called what went "disgusting" and called on social media companies to verify the identity of users.
"Social media has to do something – everything has to be checked with a passport or driver's license," he wrote on Twitter. "Stop those who create multiple accounts in order to abuse people."
United striker Marcus Rashford also expressed his full support for his teammate.
"Manchester United is like a family, Paul Pogba is an important part of this family, and if you attack it, you attack us all," Rashford wrote.
Just days ago, Frank Lampard, Chelsea's coach, urged social media companies to take tougher action after the attack on attacker Tammy Abraham, 21. years, after a penalty was missed in the defeat against Liverpool in Super Cup Europe.
