MEP Marian Azar, chair of the International Parliament's Committee on Youth and Women, presented the mechanism for a campaign to reduce "child marriage" in the Arab world after consultations with Women MPs from various Arab countries as part of a program led by the Canadian Embassy in Cairo and the Canadian Embassy in Lebanon.
Marian Azar said Saturday in a speech in Beirut that important milestones were needed to prepare the campaign: first, define the basic demands and messages of the campaign, such as criminalizing participants in this act and annul the exceptions provided for by the various laws.
"The next step is to identify the people involved, including politicians, parents, religious and the victims themselves," she said. "After that, a study of the strengths and weaknesses of the campaign will be carried out through an analysis of information".
The next step is to identify the allies, ie the parties or people who support this issue, including politicians, the media and civil society, as a result of l & # 39; identification of impartial personalities, which must be clearly directed to them.
Marian Azar pointed out that once these steps were identified, tools that could be used in the campaign, such as short videos and networking sites, ended with a presentation of the action plan based on the previous steps, which begins to collect accurate data and statistics on the extent of the spread of this phenomenon and on the areas where it is spreading. Launched the campaign.
