Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) stopped working at the epicenter of Ebola in Congo after two attacks

DAKAR (Reuters) – Doctors Without Borders (MSF) announced Thursday the suspension of its medical activities in the epicenter of the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after unidentified assailants identified burned two of its facilities.

Two WHO facilities to treat Ebola patients in North Kivu province were attacked in two separate incidents earlier this week. Humanitarian workers face mistrust in some areas as they struggle to contain the Ebola virus, the worst epidemic in Congo's history.

"In the face of these two violent incidents, we have no choice but to suspend our activities until further notice," said Robert Hughes, director of the emergency office of the United Nations. 39; WHO.

The current outbreak of Ebola, reported for the first time by the authorities in August, has reportedly killed at least 553 people and injured 300 others.
